hints for tomorrow

Hey y’all,

Tomorrow is my last solo day of hosting trivia at Stetsons. Eek. It’ll be a semi-sad occasion (although it’ll be even sadder, but probably more of a party, next week for our jointly hosted grand finale). Also, next week will be liable to be freeform, with all the rules going out the window (though still no cellphones, I can’t emphasize that enough), so if you want one last classic format with all the normal rounds, tomorrow’s your chance.

Last week we had a great showdown with three of our outstanding regular teams – best known as Suck It, Too Many Clues, and South Africa – going 1, 2, 3 at the top, in that order. And South Africa requested a round on Bravo reality TV stars/personalities (after initially thinking they’d do Latin American literature), so that’ll keep things classy tomorrow in round 5. A couple other hints to get you going:

And who knows, I may put a bonus hint here before tomorrow night…looking forward to seeing y’all there tomorrow night.

Congrats to Too Many Clues, our 2015 Summer League Champs!

IMG_3587

In case you missed it, last Tuesday’s Summer 2015 Stetsons Trivia League grand final saw Too Many Clues finally dethroned 4-time defending champions Suck It! It was a tight battle, and Suck It won the competition on the night, edging TMC 82 to 80, but needed to overcome an 8-point league deficit. And so, we have a new champion! Congrats to Suck It! Genius Orgy finished in 3rd both in the league and on the night; the other 2 DC Trivia Champions League spots went to Pinot Noir in 4th and Dr. Funke in 5th. We’ll keep you updated for that tourney’s details as we finalize them.

Until then, we’ll see you each Tuesday at Stetsons, where there’s still a great trivia battle waiting for you (and $50 and $25 tab prizes) each week! And our next Stetsons league will begin mid-autumn…stay tuned!

Results from Tuesday, and league standings update

Hey y’all!

Thanks for coming out to trivia last Tuesday. It was quite the showdown, but in the end, Too Many Clues took the $50 prize and consolidated their grip on 1st place in the league by scoring 73, outpacing Suck It (66). Ten points back in 3rd with 56 was Genius Orgy (who used their third-place prerogative to request a round on saxophonists), and picking up bonus league points in 4th (with 52.5) and 5th (with 44) were Pinot Noir and South Africa, respectively.

Which brings us to the league standings going into Tuesday’s grand final. Not too dissimilar to the above rankings, the overall leaderboard is as follows:

Team Total
Too Many Clues 91
Suck It 75
Genius Orgy 68
Pinot Noir, Pinot Noir 47
Dr. Funke’s 100% Natural Good-Time Family Band Solution 35
The Artist Formerly Known As Hillary 31
South Africa 23
Flavin’s Fighting Feisters 21.5
China Team 16.5
Hard-on Colliders 13

Now, what this means for the race to be 2015 Stetsons Summer Trivia League Champs: the overall winner of the league will be determined by adding one half your league score through last week with your total raw score this week (which, by the way, is a supersize edition with at least 100 points possible). So while Too Many Clues has a big advantage – they’d need to lose by at least 8 on Tuesday to fail to be champs – everyone on that leaderboard still has a mathematical chance (albeit some more than others), and there will be a lot of points available, and we’ll step up the difficulty a notch because it’s the final. We’ve seen a 14 league-point lead overturned in the final before a few seasons back…will we see it happen with 16?

As for the race for the 5 DC Trivia Champions League spots for this fall’s competition, that will be determined by treating this week’s final just like a normal league week – in that you’ll get 8 league points for winning it, 6 for 2nd, 5 for 3rd, 4 for 4th, 3 for 5th, and 2 for showing up – with those scores added to the above numbers. So the race for the final champions league spot looks like it’ll come down to Dr. Funke and Hillary.

Ok, now that you know all that, we’ll be posting some hints starting later this evening. Get ready!

Results from last week

Hey y’all,

A quick update on the scores from last week (which was a darn good and darn competitive trivia night). It came down to the final round, and it took a perfect score on that round for Too Many Clues to leapfrog over Pinot Noir, 67.5 points to 67.  The third and fourth place teams, Suck It (64 points) and Genius Orgy (62.5) were not far behind at all. Rounding out the top 5 and picking up a bonus league point, with 51.5, was Dr. Funke’s100% Natural Good-Time Family Band Solution.

So, with only 2 more weeks to go until the final, here’s a league leaderboard update (remember, the top 5 teams by total league points, including July 28, will receive entries into the next edition of the DC Trivia Champions League; the Stetsons League Champion, however, will be determined by adding your July 28 raw score to one-half your total league points through July 21 – if this is confusing, which it is, feel free to ask me or Brian for clarification).

Team Total
Too Many Clues 77
Suck It 61
Genius Orgy 58
Pinot Noir, Pinot Noir 39
Dr. Funke’s 100% Natural Good-Time Family Band Solution 31
The Artist Formerly Known As Hillary 27
South Africa 20
Flavin’s Fighting Feisters 18.5
China Team 16.5
Hard-on Colliders 13

Enjoy Brian’s quiz this week!

Results from last Tuesday (and league update)

Hey y’all!

Scroll down to Brian’s post if you want hints for tomorrow, but in the meantime, here are last week’s results. After a few weeks of constant 3rd place finishes, Suck It returned to the top and finished 1st with 68 points, taking $50 off their tab. In second, with the $25 prize, was Pinot Noir (Binks, Jar-Jar), with 64.5. They edged out the non-league team, 86 is Enough, who finished with 64 and requested a round on edible arrangements for tomorrow, and in 4th place just behind with 63.5 was league leaders Too Many Clues. Rounding out the top 5 and picking up a bonus league point with 60 was Dr. Funke’s 100% Natural Good-Time Family Band Solution.

So, where does this leave the league standings, with 4 more weeks of prelims before the July 28 grand final? Like this:

Team Total
Too Many Clues 61
Suck It 50
Genius Orgy 49
Pinot Noir, Pinot Noir 31
Dr. Funke’s 100% Natural Good-Time Family Band Solution 28
The Artist Formerly Known As Hillary 21
South Africa 20
Flavin’s Fighting Feisters 18.5
Hard-on Colliders 13
China Team 11.5

Remember, half your league score will be added to your raw score from the final to determine the league champion, but the 5 entries for the DC Trivia Champions League will be determined by regular league points (treating the final as if it’s just a regular night with a max of 8 league points for 1st place).

Anyway, hope you can all make it tomorrow night! Remember, Brian’s hints are below.

Results from last week (and standings update)

NOTE: For tonight’s hints, scroll down, as Brian has already posted those.

Hey y’all,

A much delayed thanks for coming out last week for what turned out to be a tough trivia night. In the end, Genius Orgy scored a convincing victory over Too Many Clues, 64.5 to 59.5, with Suck It just edged into third in the final round as they finished with 59.  Picking up valuable league points were South Africa, in 4th with 54.5 , and Hillary, in 5th with 51.5.

That tightens things up both at the top of our league standings, as well as in the battle for the 4th and 5th spots to qualify for this fall’s DC Trivia Champions League, as you see in the updated leaderboard here.  We’ve got quite the league shaping up here, so keep it going tonight!

Too Many Clues 49
Genius Orgy 44
Suck It 37
Pinot Noir, Pinot Noir 21
Dr. Funke’s 100% Natural Good-Time Family Band Solution 19
South Africa 18
The Artist Formerly Known As Hillary 17
